About us

Welcome

Hello moms, dads, grandparents and caretakers.

We’ve created the Wilmington Kids website for you. To help you find the best kid-friendly things and resources in Wilmington, NC

About Us

This website is managed by two Wilmington transplants, married to two Wilmington natives. Our husbands grew up in the area, went to Wilmington schools, and played on Wilmington beaches. After being away for some time, we made our way back to the coast—with little ones in tow. And we quickly discovered that being married to a native didn’t mean that we were ahead of the game. In fact, we learned that things were a whole lot different from when our partners grew up here and information about how to navigate this big and busy place isn’t easy to find.

The Idea

While many other “natives” may already know who runs the best summer camps, when the perfect time is to pick-your-own strawberries, or who boils the best peanuts in town, we are still figuring this stuff out. Don’t get us started on the trials of maneuvering through the school system or finding childcare for our littles. As we’ve been doing our own research, we noticed there really wasn’t a “home base” for this type of information. So, we are dedicating this site to diving into these things and sharing them with you.

While Wilmington has long been known as a vacation destination, the community of young people who call the area home year-round is booming. New families are moving in and more and more parents are asking the same questions we’ve been asking. Whether you’re visiting for the summer or call Wilmington home full time, we hope this website will help you take advantage of everything our beautiful coastal town has to offer to its littlest residents.

Rene

When I moved to Wilmington in the winter of 2015 with my husband. It was the first time I’d lived by the ocean. We drove the moving van across the old swing bridge onto Topsail Island where we were staying while we looked for a home in Wilmington, and our beachside adventure began.

Fast forward a few years and we welcomed a baby. Since then, I’ve discovered that living in Wilmington can be a wonderful place to raise a family. I am a planner, so as soon as I knew I was pregnant, I was on the hunt for great childcare. Since then, I’ve not stopped searching for the best kid-friendly things to do and places to go in town.
